Village Chiropractors Published in Respected Journal

The Chiropractors at Village Wellness can now add Published Authors to their current CV’s.  In the most recent edition of the Journal of the Canadian Chiropractic Association, the doctors along with three colleagues were published under the article Technique Systems used by Post-1980 Graduates of the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College practicing in five Canadian provinces: a preliminary survey.

The research was carried out in 2008 as part of a student investigative project and accepted for publication in June 2008. The research effort was the brainchild of the chiropractors due to their frustrations as students in Toronto where they had limited exposure to other chiropractic techniques, compared to their counterparts at American Colleges.  They set out to gather information on what types of techniques graduates of their alma mater were using after graduation.  As Chiropractors, although the education is very similar the physical techniques used to treat patients can differ.  Some doctors are very hands on, while others prefer mechanical devices or feel that certain parts of the spine have a greater impact on overall well being.  The results showed that a great deal of graduates of the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College do in fact seek out further courses  and incur extra costs to do so.  Those Chiropractors which are American educated and practice in Canada have an extra advantage in that they are exposed to additional techniques during their chiropractic education.  This gives them the added benefit of knowing whether or not they desire to pursue further understanding of various techniques without having to incur the additional costs.

The results of the study supported the initial hypothesis that graduates of CMCC were in fact pursing and utilizing additional techniques besides ones taught in the curriculum.  This research provides the basis for further study into the practice styles of Chiropractors in Canada, primarily those graduates of CMCC.  It is the hope of the authors that in the future this research can be used as an indicator to the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College of the need for further exposure of its student population to alternative techniques.

The Journal of the Canadian Chiropractic Association is a peer reviewed publication since 1957. It is published on a quarterly basis.
