What to Expect
As with any treatment received at Village Wellness, your first visit will consist of a detailed health history followed by a physical examination by one of our highly trained and certified chiropractors. Following your examination and subsequent diagnosis, we will determine whether you are a suitable candidate for acupuncture therapy. As always, your acupuncture provider will develop a specific treatment plan based on your history and examination findings, and it will be explained what you can expect during treatment.
The acupuncture treatment itself will consist of the insertion of very fine needles through the skin. The needles are placed at strategic points in the body to stimulate the nervous system. Since the nervous system connects throughout your entire body, needles may be inserted at points both close to your area of discomfort, as well as points father away to help alleviate your discomfort and restore function. Your doctor may or may not use electrical needle stimulation to aid in this process, depending on the area and condition being treated.
Responses vary with use of acupuncture, however most people find the experience pleasant and relaxing. The needles do not generally hurt, since they are too thin to actually damage healthy tissue. Careful measures are always taken to ensure your comfort and safety during treatment. Only new, sterilized, disposable needles are used by the practitioners at Village Wellness.
