What to expect
A patient can acquire custom orthotics at Village Wellness in one of several ways:
· referred by another health professional such as a medical doctor or physiotherapist
· referred by a health professional at Village Wellness in conjunction with their current treatment plan
· as an inquiry by the patient them self due to a history of lower limb or back pain
At this time a professional trained to evaluate and administer custom orthotics such as a Chiropractor will conduct a brief history and perform a physical exam that may include evaluation of foot, ankle, knee, hip and low back anatomy and biomechanics. A computerized Dynamic Foot Scan will be performed in which your gait will be analyzed 150 times per second tracking 8 key points along the plantar surface of your foot. A foam cast of your feet will accompany your dynamic scan and clinician’s notes. The diagnostic software is grounded in well researched principles and along with the clinician’s diagnostic ability, you will be assessed for a pair of custom orthotics created to suit your individual needs. This process may take between 30 – 45 minutes.
