No team of practitioners treating musculoskeletal conditions would be complete without a Registered Massage Therapist; the Village Wellness team is no different. Kasmir Appleby (pronounced Cashmere - yes like that soft, silky wool!) joined the doctors at the Hammonds Plains clinic in January of this year and has been having great clinical success and enjoying her return to her roots in Nova Scotia. Originally from Chester, Kasmir studied at the ICT Northumberland College in Halifax where she graduated with a diploma in Massage Therapy. She then ventured west, practicing for several years in Alberta in a spa environment under the Natural Health Practitioners of Canada. But like most East Coasters she yearned to return home, closer to her family including her twin sister who is also a Massage Therapist practicing on the South Shore.
Since joining Village Wellness Kasmir has expanded her repertoire of therapeutic techniques, recently completing Reflexology. She adds this to her already diverse understanding and training in Maternal Massage, Myofascial Release, Hot Stone and Sports Massage. Integrating these techniques with her past experience, Kasmir is equipped to assess and treat a wide variety of clinical presentations. Kasmir has enjoyed her shift from mainly a relaxation provider to a member of an integrated health care team primarily because she feels more knowledgeable and confident in providing safe and effective treatment to her clients. “There is also a great deal of satisfaction in working with other health care providers; the patients experience is often more positive because we can communicate and be clear on the progress of our shared clients” claims Kasmir. This combined with the ability to establish relationships, provide home care advice and follow up over the duration of a treatment plan appear to aid in recovery for patients and establishing better health overall.
